In northern China there is a beautiful tradition called the Bei Jia Bei, or a 100 Good Wishes quilt. Friends and family all contribute a piece of fabric. The new mom assembles the pieces of fabric into a Bei Jia Bei for their little one. The 100 Good Wishes quilt represents all of the blessings and good wishes from friends and family. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
I love this! For me it is a way for me to be loving Mae while she is so far away and so close to my heart! I also love it because it is a way for YOU to be involved! My prayer is that the Lord would lay just the right thing on your hearts to share with our Mae….and she will have a beautiful reminder of how many people love her! We would be SO HONORED for you to be a part of her life in this way!
So let me give you the details of how this will work:
1. Please pray for our Mae. I know this is hard to do sometimes because we do not have a stitch of details about her. Ask God to lay something on your heart to pray for her…and her family!
2. Choose a fabric that is 100% cotton. You can choose a girly fabric, a fabric that is from where you live, a fabric that is your favorite design, a fabric with chinese designs…be creative! If you know me at all…I LOVE color and all things girly! It can be a new piece of fabric or one that you have had for a long time that could have special meaning.
3. VERY IMPORTANT!! PLEASE pre-wash and dry your piece of fabric before you cut a 9 X 9 inch piece of fabric for our quilt.
4. This is the fun part. Send us a card as small as 4×6 or as large as 8×10 with a prayer/blessing for our Mae and a scrap of your fabric (glued to the paper). You can write a prayer, your favorite scripture, your thoughts about Mae, lyrics to your favorite poem or song, or whatever the Lord lays on your heart! BE CREATIVE! You can even include a picture of yourself or your family. Please remember to sign your wish and include your city and state. All of the notes will be assembled in a book for Mae.
5. If you decide to be a part of this tradition with us please send me an email at janacofield@yahoo.com and I will send you our address.
We are excited to see how this comes together. We will be posting pics of the progress, so stay tuned! Thank you for wanting to be a part of this journey with us!
OUR FIRST QUILT PIECE!!
We received our first quilt square and sweet wish for Mae in the mail yesterday! Grandma sent a sweet pink piece of material with an old piece of tatting from Meme Co, who would be Mae’s great, great grandma! So COOL! We are excited to get some more to get this quilt and scrapbook started! THANKS GRANDMA!

It all sounds good, Jana. When you get the first square, you can post a picture like on the other site; visuals always help. I’ll try to get mine to you asap…gma

Jana:
I read your message on facebook last night but did not have time to readthe blog. I was unable to sleep so I finally got out of the bed at 5:00am to check it out. It would be such a blessing for me to be a part of your quilt. I started praying for Mae this morning and that God would lead me to a special piece of material for her quilt. Love you!
Jana,
I will have my card and fabric ready for you when you come visit next month. I’m excited to meet sweet Mae. See you soon.
Love,
amber
