Our first quilt square!

We received our first quilt square and sweet wish for Mae in the mail yesterday! Grandma sent a sweet pink piece of material with an old piece of tatting from Meme Co, who would be Mae’s great, great grandma! So COOL! We are excited to get some more to get this quilt and scrapbook started! THANKS GRANDMA!

We got word yesterday that our adoption paperwork should reach China by Tuesday and our log in date (LID) will be sometime in May.  I thought that was pretty neat…since we decided to name her Mae :)!   It is a bit disheartening to know that we could potentially have to wait up to 5 years to have Mae in our arms.  I know it sounds crazy because I don’t know ANYTHING about her, but I just LOVE her so much and long for her to be with our family!

I have been looking on websites of other families adopting from China and one of my favorite things I have found is this tradition that comes from northern China.  It is called a 100 Good Wishes quilt.  I love it because it gives me a practical way to do something special for Mae as we begin this long wait for her.  I think about her all the time.  This will be a way for me to channel some of that into a special project for her that will be so meaningful!  I also love it that YOU guys can get involved!  Check out our new page that has been added at the top of our blog called, “100 Good Wishes Quilt” to get all the details!  We would be honored for YOU to be a part of this tradition with us!

I didn’t really know what to expect being a mom of a boy. I grew up with an older brother, so I spent A LOT of my days at the ball field…football, baseball, basketball…you name it I was there to cheer on my older brother! But I was always doing “girl things” in the midst of a boy world. I love everything GIRL! Justin. however, grew up with 2 younger brothers in a house FULL of boyness! So having a little boy has been so much fun for us…especially as Jaxon gets older and does more BOY things :)! Justin is having so much fun spending time with Jax and Jax just can’t get enough of his daddy. It is so fun to watch him trying to do EVERYTHING Justin does and just wants to be right there with him! I, on the other hand, have had to make some adjustments as Jaxon has gotten older! I am just a girl…I can’t help it. I am having fun learning how to play super heroes, wrestling, climbing, doing cool tricks, jumping off of things…trying to be a part of a boy’s world. It is pretty fun, I must say! I have had to let go some and let him do some things that may not be the safest…Justin tells me I need to let him be a boy and hurt himself sometimes…it’s o.k. to get a hurt a little when you are having adventures! It has been funny to watch Jaxon be a part of my world too…he LOVES flowers, wants to play “fix mommy’s hair”, he likes to watch me put on my makeup, he likes to help me with my sewing and he will say, “mommy, that is cute!” about something I have made or pick out at the store.

One day we were driving in the car and I was singing the song “I am a promise”…I know all the singing..and talking parts:)…He asked me if God could go across the ocean. I said He could, but the song is about YOU being and doing ANYTHING God wants you to be and do! I told him that God wants us to have adventures with HIM…He wants our life to be full of adventure and wonder! So now Jaxon’s newest thing to say is, “Let’s go have an adventure!” It is REAL cute! I keep praying that God would help me foster a sense of “boy” adventure in him and keep helping me know how to give Jax freedom to be ALL God wants him to be!

So here are some pics of Jax being a boy…and trying to make sense of girls 🙂

Adoption Update!

WE DID IT!!! Our dossier is on its way to China!! I mailed the pile of paperwork this morning to our contact at Gladney in NYC. They will give it a good look to make sure everything is perfect then send it on to China!! YEAH!! We are so excited. We decided a little over a year ago to start this journey, so it feels good to have all of our part done for now. Our papers should be logged in with the Chinese government by the end of April or beginning of May…then it is just wait and pray for 3-5 years! Who knows what God has in store! We keep seeking Him about adopting a child that is on the waiting list, which would be a much faster process, but we keep hearing Him tell us to wait…so here we go! We are getting really good at waiting :)! Please continue to pray that we will consistently hear God’s voice through the process and that HE will take care of our little Mae! We think about her so often and think about her parents and what a hard struggle they are going to have to go through in giving her up. We want our gracious, loving, compassionate Father to take care of them and somehow show them HIS extravagant love!

The other day me and Jax were playing while he was taking a bath. We had two boats and I was asking his boat if it wanted to be my friend. I asked his boat what his name was…he said something silly like, “scagoolala”. I told him that name sounded like he was from another country and asked him what country he was from. Jaxon answered, “I am from China.” I asked him what was China like? He said, “They have babies in China!” Man…he is going to have fun loving Mae!

Hebrews 3:12-19

“Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin…So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.”

This chunk of the New Testament is referring to the Israelites. God had provided a way for them to have freedom being enslaved by the Egyptians…I mean…He did crazy, freaky things that you can read about in the book of Exodus. He wanted to bring them to the Promised Land…a beautiful land He had ready for them to enjoy. The sad part was that God would do an amazing act of love for them and in days they would be doubting that God would come through for them in another area they were struggling with. They believed who God was, but they were constantly struggling with having confidence in HIM on a daily basis. They struggled with believing that He deeply cared for them. He wasn’t out to get them, but moved by extravagant love for them. They were no longer slaves to the Egyptians, but they became slaves to their unbelief. They never FULLY experienced a life of BELIEVING GOD!

I have been really convicted and encouraged by this passage. There are things in my life that I am battling…sometimes on a daily basis…to believe God for. There are things that I am praying for some friends and family that I struggle to believe God for. Why?? I have no idea…because God has done so many amazing things in my life that I have no reason to not have confidence in Him. Some of these things He has even spoken to me about on numerous occassions that He is going to give them to me or to the ones I love…just not yet. In the “just not yet” moments it is so easy for doubt to slip in.

When I read this passage and the Lord started speaking to me about it, I was convicted that I needed to write about it. I figured that if I struggled with it, there are probably some of you out there that struggle with it too. Let’s get risky and CHOOSE to believe that Jesus is merciful and faithful (Heb. 2:17); that the outcome of His dealings is that He is full of compassion and merciful (James 5:11); that He is a good Father who knows how to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:7-11); that He who promised is faithful (Heb. 10:23); that God chose us and appointed us to bear fruit (John 15); that God longs to give us the desires of our heart as we delight in Him (Ps. 37:4). I am not saying God wants to spoil you and give you whatever you ask for and make your life easy and comfortable. He is a wise Father, not an irresponsible one. But, I am saying that He has a promised land for YOU and He doesn’t want unbelief to keep you from living in YOUR promised land! What is it in your life that YOU need to get a little risky and just decide to BELIEVE GOD for…no matter how long it takes Him! It seems that in the waiting time He gets us ready to REALLY enjoy His gifts…with HIM as the center of all we are…and not the gifts! I believe that it is not the gifts that we are asking for that allow us to experience our promised land, but getting to KNOW God and all of His goodness…THAT is our promised land, but if we never step out and risk, then it is hard to know how to have FULL confidence in HIM! God wants us to live a BIG life of believing HIM so that the WHOLE world is talking about what a loving, compassionate, BIG God He is…and we are able to give them intimate, personal examples of His goodness…not just stories we have heard!  Let’s quit being deceived by sin and quit listening to the world and take some believing-God-risks! Get to know…really KNOW the living God…He’ll show ya what believing-God-risks He wants YOU to take!
